Opening New Doors for Homeowners

We put out the welcome mat for Green Homes Queenstown!

Meet our newest franchise owner, Wal Dix (left). Wal has lived in the Queenstown Lakes area for the past 30 years and has been involved in the construction industry for the past 25 years. After identifying a gap in the local market for building better, higher performing homes Green Homes was a natural choice for Wal and his team to offer more sustainable building solutions.

Stunningly picturesque (but a bit chilly at times) Queenstown can finally boast a residential builder with international compliance credentials for Energy Management (ISO 50001). This compliance is unique to Green Homes New Zealand which is the only residential builder in the country to offer clients IS0 50001 certification with every home constructed.

Along with a practical and stylish plan range to suit the challenges of its harsh environmental conditions Green Homes Queenstown [link to web page] will soon offer warmer, drier homes that don’t cost the earth!

Wal’s experience in the building industry

Wal has also been a residential Pre-purchase Inspector and Asbestos Management Surveyor for the past five years. He holds a Diploma in Building Surveying with NZIBS and the BOHS IP402 qualification for Asbestos Surveying in Buildings as well as being a current LBP.

Wal also has a small residential building company which has been operating since 2005 in the Queenstown area with several projects currently underway.

Why a Green Homes Franchise?

After observing poor outcomes for homeowners as a surveyor because of the design, building methods employed and general lack of understanding of the science behind a building’s performance, the Green Homes Brand really struck a chord with Wal as it focuses on design and performance for better outcomes for future generations in terms of sustainable materials, energy efficiency and healthy living for occupants as a result.

Wal is proud that Green Homes New Zealand is a member of the Green Building Council plus he is looking forward to incorporating Universal Design principles into some of his new builds via their design partner Lifemark. Lifemark accredited homes are safer and more accessible, especially for people with mobility issues, or for those who want to future proof their home well into retirement and beyond.

Where from here?

Wal and his team are excited to bring the Green Homes brand to the Queenstown area. They’re currently in the design process with their new showhome in Hanley Farm’s next Showhome Precinct. Watch this space for updates!
