Last month we introduced you to Bruce and Roger from Green Homes Auckland. This month we’re sitting down with Matt Hambrook and Lina Tang – two more members from this fabulous crew! As Construction Manager and Quantity Surveyor, Matt and Lina make a solid pair and since they have both been with us over a year, they are also teaching the new guys a thing or two about all things Green, and all things Homes.
Q&A with Matt
What attracted you to Green Homes?
Being backed by a long standing, solid commercial company (Watts and Hughes) and building quality, energy efficient homes.
What can we find you doing outside of work?
Boating with the family, mountain biking, tramping.
In your opinion, what is the best building/industry trend or innovation?
Two things; NZ built PVC joinery mainly due to the added thermal benefits, robust construction and window opening options, and screw pile foundations for the time and cost savings they provide, not to mention less mess on site!
Dream holiday destination?
Alaska to see the Northern Lights.
Favourite thing about the industry/your work?
Building quality homes and being part of a small company team. That’s the beauty of Green Homes, our clients can pick from pre-designed plans or create their dream home. We can be as boutique or as a group home builder as we need to cater to all needs.
What gets you out of bed each day?
Breakfast.
What is one thing you want Green Homes readers to know about you?
Quality is key!
It’s great to have you on the team Matt!

Lina is another very important member of our team, joining Green Homes over a year ago now as a Quantity Surveyor. After gaining her qualification from the Southern Institute of Technology, Lina moved to the beautiful city of Queenstown where she worked for 5 years, honing her QS skills and gaining valuable experience in the south. Lina is an expert at her trade, and being fluent in Mandarin provides added value to our QS team, and more so to our clients.
Seeking new horizons (and maybe slightly warmer weather) she took the leap and made the move up north to Auckland, where she worked for a residential construction company for a year. Lina’s path eventually led her to Green Homes, where she continues to apply her expertise and passion for her work.
Q&A with Lina

Mainly because of Green Homes’ commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly values. Building healthier and more sustainable homes. Also, fantastic colleagues.
What can we find you doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy taking it easy and exploring various new restaurants/ places with friends.

China, even though I’m originally from China, there are many places I haven’t had the chance to explore yet.
Favourite thing about the industry/your work?
What I enjoy most about being a QS is every day is unique, and it ensures the work never becomes monotonous.
